After hearing story after story about Disney Princesses, our daughter asked, "What other princesses are there?" Thinking really hard, and back into my childhood, I came up with Princess Leia. That brought on the whole story-telling of the Star Wars saga.

After watching a few of the episodes so far, she now asks me to play the Darth Vader theme and Luke Skywalker's theme on piano. We got her a couple of little action figures, and she likes me to play Princess Leia's theme song while Darth Vader marries Padme.

So if you find yourself in a similar situation, here is a list of some sheet music for Star Wars theme songs:

One of our daughter's new favorite songs is Give Your Heart a Break by Demi Lovato. It is an upbeat song played with a lot of warm toned black keys. But it's fun to sing and dance to. Our daughter's birthday is coming up soon, and we have been planning a "royal ball" for her princess birthday with all the princess paraphernalia. She's already got all the dresses, so we didn't have to worry about that. But today we shopped for a Cinderella ball gown for Mommy and a prince suit for Daddy. This will be our first "ball".

So to commemorate, here is a new song I learned that the Princess adores:

Have you seen the new Disney movie Brave yet? Our daughter loved it so much she's already got the Merida dress and knows most of the words to the songs from the soundtrack. Its beautiful Scotish music and fun to play, especially on acoustic guitar.

While we are on the topic the movie Tangled, I figured I would also learn how to play "When Will My Life Begin", also from the movie Tangled. It's kind of a jammin' little song. And best of all, when I play it on guitar, our daughter strums along on her little Princess Guitar.

Our daughter is really into Disney princesses. Recently, I learned how to play "I See the Light" from the movie Tangled on guitar. It's a beautiful song, and our little princess loves singing along. It's beautiful on piano or guitar. We even saw a ballerina dance to the piano instrumental version at a ballet we went to.

"Hidden Away" by Josh Groban is perfect for piano or guitar or both! It's a ballad, so it's slow and pretty easy to play. I heard it on the radio and then learned how to play it on guitar. But the piano would sound just as beautiful. It's just been easier to pick up a guitar noadays with toddler Bel running around. I just capo it at V for a female voice.

Hope you are enjoying your summer and had a nice 4th of July. This year we decided to do something other than sit at home, so we went to watch a parade. It was mostly for the benefit of Baby Bel. I knew she would enjoy the marching band, so we drove 1-1/2 hours and stood there and waited for about that same amount of time.

But she did enjoy the band and the parade very much. She danced to the music, grabbed the candy that was thrown, and even now still loves watching the videos we took of the marching band.

Made me remember the days when I was in marching band. There really is nothing like it. It is fun for the whole family to watch. I loved marching to the drum beats.

Now that we are fully in the swing of summer, here's some Summertime sheet music to learn after a long day's work or a fun day in the sun.

My mom came over today and played the new song she is learning on piano, The Rose (performed by Bette Midler). It's a simple song to learn, but a very beautiful favorite.

We just got back from a wonderful vacation in Hawaii. It was great to get away from Seattle for a bit and see the sun and spend time on the beach. Musically, it was all about the ukulele. Got me back to thinking about practicing my uke again.

Our toddler likes to pluck and strum the uke and sing along, trying to match the pitch of each string. So far this year, my musical resolution is to learn "Rythm of Love" on the uke. Last year I learned "Hey, Soul Sister", but haven't played it in months. Totally forgot it, so now I have to relearn that as well!

I found this great tutorial video on Youtube for learning "Rythm of Love" on the ukulele. It's got the chords, lyrics, and video of the guy playing it. Plus, it sounds great, too. I've already started learning the song using that video!

The ukulele a great instrument to learn for this summer. Can't you just see yourself hanging out on a relaxing afternoon playing "Somewhere over the Rainbow"?

She's also been honing her new musical skills by playing keyboard with Daddy and piano with Mommy. Now we're preparing another BBQ for the 4th. No fireworks for us this year though, since we don't want to scare the little one.

Brings back old memories of sitting on a blanket amongst our military family friends listening to my dad's Army band play Stars and Stripes Forever. My dad was here visiting for a week, but he's gone now. Miss him, and wish he was here to celebrate Father's Day together. We had a great time while he was here, though. My sister and one of my brothers were also here, and we had some fun family jam sessions. We sang, played piano, guitar, drums, and even an egg shaker. It's been quite a while since my last post! We just had our first baby last October, and I had put writing on hold for a while. I hope you had a nice Mother's Day. It was our first Mother's Day, and we had a nice brunch and walk around Ballard Locks with my mom and some friends. Thankfully, we had nice weather that day.

In honor of our new baby, I am featuring the sheet music for Lullaby and Goodnight, one of the most famous baby lullabies. Learn it so you can lull your baby or close friend or relative's baby to sleep. Or at least put a smile on their face :-)
